Summer is here...although it seems to taking its sweet time arriving. I am one who doesn't mind the rain. I find it saves me from lugging out miles of garden hose in my attempts to maintain my meager collection of plants. What does bother me is commercials that count down the "dog days of summer".
I found myself watching TV recently where I watched a cheerful person tell me that it was day 36 out of the 100 dog days of summer. This announcement got me to thinking about how the summer was almost half way over and I haven't even done anything on my summer "to do" list. Shouldn't the summer be a time of no stress...lazing in the sunshine. The TV announcement only served to remind me that summer is a season that passes just like the rest of them. And who wants to think that summer isn't going to be here forever?
Wait, I guess you could ask any woman over 30 who has to try on their bathing suit for the first time this season. Then you will be treated to someone who talks longingly of turtle necks and snowsuits.
I suppose something good came out of the hearing the summer countdown because it made me realize that I was wasting them by staying indoors watching TV! So now is the time to buy stock in the sunblock lotion industry because this old girl plans on making the most of her summer days.
